About

Max Banshees (b. 1998) is a cartoonist and illustrator based in Massachusetts. Their work explores horror, sensuality, and pain through vibrant and surreal depictions of the human body. It frequently pairs anatomical and figure drawings with motifs such as insects, vices, violence, and aphrodisiac foods.

Works by Max Banshees have appeared in award-winning SFF/horror publications such as Strange Horizons & Death in the Mouth, as well as in erotic anthologies like Slake House & De Nuit.

Their illustrations and comics operate through visual metaphors, with an emphasis placed on motion, repetition, and sets of unexpected imagery. Between two panels or drawings, a shucked oyster might turn into an anatomical figure dancing with its own skin, and a head in a jar might become a bottle of alcohol. This— combined with their use of rigid grid layouts and limited or absent dialogue— amplifies the intensity and open-ended nature of their stories.

In 2023, they graduated from MassArt with a BFA in Illustration, and received departmental honors.
